Description
On June 8, 2021 my wife and I visited a heronry in Severn Township in Ontario. This is a large heronry which when we first visited in late April had over 50 active nests. We observed a young black bear, sitting in one of the heron nests, about 4 or 5 stories up in the air, presumably feeding on either heron chicks or eggs. We watched the bear for about an hour and would loved to have seen him shimmy back down. We thought however that he might wait for nightfall to descend in order to avoid possible attacks from the adult herons. This was either one very determined or very hungry bear!
